Kazakhstan’s Model of Interethnic Tolerance to be Promoted, Plans Made for Year of Celebration

dsc_8730ASTANA – Secretary of State of Kazakhstan Gulshara Abdykalikova called for the international promotion of Kazakhstan’s model of interethnic tolerance last month at the expanded meeting of the State Commission for the Organisation and Holding of the Year of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (APK) in 2015.

“We aim to raise awareness in the international community of the essence of Kazakhstan’s model of interethnic tolerance and public consent. We have to attract all Kazakh institutions working abroad as well as broadcasting channels watched by international audiences,” Abdykalikova said.

Kazakhstan’s model, in many ways, was built in a bottom-up process, from ethnic nongovernmental organisations to cooperation between civic institutions represented by ethno-cultural organisations and the state.

According to Abdykalikova, Kazakhstan will continue popularising the country’s model of interethnic tolerance and public consent internationally.

“The ideological and political unity of the multi-ethnic and multi-confessional people of Kazakhstan on the basis of national support for the strategic course of the President is our main goal,” she said.

During the meeting, attendants discussed planning commemorative events for 2015, the implementation of the National Action Plan for the organisation of the Year of the APK and reviewed preparations for events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Constitution of Kazakhstan. The Constitution was approved in a national referendum in August 1995, while the APK was established in the spring of that year. The 20 years of both are to be commemorated in 2015, along with the 550th anniversary of the establishment of the Kazakh Khanate.

Members of the State Commission approved the Concept of the Year of the APK, a document that intends to provide organisational and methodological unity and coordination across all activities.

The State Commission also approved samples of the logo for the Year of the APK and the Jubilee Medal for the 20th anniversary of the APK.

In addition, they discussed issues of interaction and coordination among government agencies to implement the plan of anniversary events in 2015, including the anniversary of the Constitution, the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate and the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War II.

Presentations were made by Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Commission Berdibek Saparbayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Council and Deputy Chairman of the Commission Igor Rogov, Deputy Chairman and head of the Secretariat of the APK and Deputy Chairman of the Commission Eraly Tugzhanov, Minister of Culture and Sport Arystanbek Mukhamediuly and head of the Central Communications Service Yerzhan Babakumarov.

Following the meeting, the Secretary of State gave a number of specific instructions on the organisation of future work.

Members of the State Commission, members of parliament, government representatives, heads of ethno-cultural associations, members of the expert council of the APK and representatives of the media also attended the expanded meeting.
